Getting London Moving is a new choice-based lettings scheme which will give many of London's council and housing association tenants the chance to choose their move.

This scheme comprises 11 of London's social landlords. These are 5 councils - Hammersmith & Fulham, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Lambeth - and 6 Registered Social Landlords (or housing associations) - Metropolitan Housing Trust, Shepherds Bush Housing Association, Notting Hill Housing Trust, Ujima Housing Association, Family Housing Association, and New Islington & Hackney Housing Association.

Tenants from the participating RSLs can search and register for a property of their choice on the Getting London Moving website. Once they decide to transfer, tenants will be able to go and view the homes of other tenants who want to transfer, while making their own home available for viewing. Instead of waiting for their landlord to find them a home, they should be able to act for themselves. With this power, tenants can build up chains of potential moves, restricted neither by area nor landlord. The participating landlords will provide an empty property to complete a chain of five or more, or when a chain includes a tenant is in priority need. This scheme is a tenant driven, hands on approach and will empower tenants to arrange their own moves.

The project is being managed by the London Housing Unit service of the Association of London Government and is grant funded by the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions as part of its Choice-Based Lettings Initiative.
