eCommerce web sites

An introduction to eCommerce web sites

Nexus Internet Solutions have developed a variety of systems over the years for large and small enterprises so they may exploit the Internet for commercial purposes. ecommerce is a very broad term to describe the variety of functions and services we have provided. Nexus have a wealth of experience since being early adopters of ecommerce websites in 1996.

An important part of our abilities is not only the software expertise we have in abundance but a"real world" experience of the issues facing most businesses when they adopt an ecommerce approach. For example.

  • How do we retain high profitability in markets that have discrete pricing issues?
  • How do we maintain the confidentiality of offers and prices that we would like to provide to "key accounts"?
  • Will our distributors and agents not be de-motivated by erosion of their roles?

These questions and others like them are questions that we have helped businesses address through our consultancy and analysis prior to delivery. Many of our staff have been faced with these exact problems themselves in previous job roles outside Nexus and therefore can guide you through these issues.

Whether you are business that has a small portfolio of products or a huge catalogue that may be difficult to navigate and configure you should contact Nexus for a conversation about your needs.

What is ecommerce?

Electronic Commerce or ecommerce is basically the process and methods involved in buying or selling goods and services over computer networks. You will often find that ecommerce is split into two distinct types:

  • B2C or Business to Consumer ecommerce is primarily focused on delivering goods and services directly to the public or end user customers and is therefore in essence a virtual storefront.
  • B2B or Business to Business ecommerce is trading of goods and services between business. In many cases there transactions are paid for in the traditional accounting of invoices. They may include wholesale delivery within the supply chain and linked to existing legacy systems.

Back in the 1970s EDI was the term everyone used which was electronic Data Interchange, primarily this was concerned with the movement of purchase orders and invoices from business to business.

In the mid 1990s when Nexus was formed rudimentary ecommerce sites began to be created and Nexus ere at the forefront of this charge. At that time we developed primarily sites for existing "bricks and mortar" businesses. Although we had our fair share of enquiries from dot com companies keen to exploit a virtual marketplace.

Since 2000 and the shake up of the dot com businesses Nexus has developed a variety of bespoke ecommerce web sites for its clients. Many of our clients have unique challenges to selling on line. We are able to bring experience of many similar and diverse business' solutions to the discussion and therefore help these clients achieve their needs.
